
Dr. Peter Buckley, president of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, has been named to the Memphis Business Journal's list of the 100 Most Influential People in Mid-South Business for the second time.
Each year, the Memphis Business Journal (MBJ) editorial team compiles the Power 100 list, which features outstanding leaders in sports, education, business, politics, health care, and community service. Dr. Buckley was named to the Power 100 for the first time last year, his first year at the UT Health Science Center.
“It is a tremendous honor to serve the UT Health Sciences Center and our community. This recognition speaks to the impact of the UT Health Sciences Center in our community,” said Chancellor Buckley. .
Since Chancellor Buckley last received this honor, he has led the UT Health Sciences Center through a period of transition with new leadership and impactful new initiatives. He brought to the university a new executive vice president and chief operating financial officer, a new vice president for advancement and strategic partnerships, and new deans for the School of Pharmacy and School of Medicine. Under his leadership, the UT Health Sciences Center also adopted and began implementing his 2023-2028 strategic plan and opened a state-of-the-art building in Memphis to train future dentists. , strengthened important partnerships across Tennessee to increase our visibility and impact across the state. All of these efforts contribute to the university's vision of “Healthy Tennesseans.” A thriving community.
“Memphis is our home. Tennessee is our campus. Our work is done through partnerships across Tennessee,” Chancellor Buckley said.
Dr. Buckley is a trained psychiatrist, international expert on schizophrenia, and a leader in the academic community. He recently received the Leadership Award from the American Association of Professors of Psychiatry and was honored as a Distinguished Service Member by the Association of American Medical Colleges for his exemplary contributions to academic medicine.
This is the fifth time a UT Health Sciences Center leader has been named to the Power 100 list since the list began in 2019. Former Executive Vice President Kennard Brown, JD, MPA, PhD, FACHE, was named to the list four times before retiring last year. .
