Burn Manufacturing (BURN) donates six clean cookstoves and dry goods for ECOA's facility to feed more than 2,000 people per day affected by ongoing flooding in the country .
Designed to cook bulk meals of up to 200 kg, the 200 liter institutional cookstove will facilitate the preparation of meals for hungry displaced families in Nairobi's Matale and Mukuru Kwa Reuben districts.
Victims are currently housed in four different camps within two districts of Nairobi, with six kitchens operating 24 hours a day to ensure food is prepared on time. Kitchens are struggling to keep up with high demand, often resulting in long wait times and inadequate food rationing.
Improved cookstoves offer significant benefits, including up to 90% reduction in firewood consumption and the flexibility to use firewood or briquettes, making them a cost-effective and versatile option for your facility. The stove has a thermal efficiency of 65% and can boil 200 liters in 52 minutes.
The devastating effects of heavy rains in Kenya have left over 257 people dead and 293,661 displaced.
BURN CEO Peter Scott: “Following the floods, people across Kenya are going hungry. We need to get ready meals to these families quickly. BURN will continue to invest in these commercial stoves. As we continue to manufacture and provide dry food products and bring more partners on board, we will further expand our reach and impact by delivering both stoves and food to families in need. I'm very proud of my team.”
Mathare Social Justice Center Coordinator Wanjira Wanjiru said: With these stoves, she will be able to serve her three meals a day – breakfast, lunch and dinner – in her six community kitchens here in Mathare. The need is huge: food, warm clothing, diapers and napkins for women. We hope more partners will join us in our support. ”
Since its launch in 2013, BURN has delivered over 4.5 million stoves across Africa, all produced at its manufacturing facility in Kenya. This has affected more than 4.2 million lives, saved families more than $520 million (680 billion kronor) in fuel costs, and so far saved him 6.9 million tons of wood. .
BURN operates two factories in Kenya with the capacity to manufacture over 400,000 stoves per month and employs over 2,500 factory and field staff.
