The Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Moses Wetanwura, has revealed that there are plans to upgrade Bungoma City to city status following Eldoret Town.
He said that his dream is to make Bungo City a reality in his lifetime as a member of the Diet and as a politician.
“Right now, we have Nakuru, Kisumu and Eldoret. Bungoma must be the next city in the region after Eldoret,” Wetangula said.
Ford Kenya leaders urge the county leadership led by Governor Kenneth Lusaka to come up with proper plans to help Teshima grow into a desirable position, including the fact that the town has many unnamed roads. He said he did.
“If you don't know the name, name it according to the name of your constituency, for example Tongaren Road,” he said.
He spoke on Monday during the groundbreaking ceremony of the debate room and launch of the Konza Digital Skills Lab at the grounds of the Bungo County Assembly.
Commenting on the ongoing renovation of Masinde Muliro Stadium, Wetanwula said those sitting on public land should be evicted to provide space for the stadium expansion.
“I am one of those whose stores along Kandui were demolished to make way for the construction and expansion of the stadium. I have not asked the governor because I know why my store was demolished. ''Wetanwura said.
The Speaker of Parliament responded to the cries of the family of the former governor who lamented the demolition of their Sh5 million property.
Mr Wetangura's sentiments were echoed by Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, who said the county was on the right track to ensure the implementation of plans to improve the status of the town.
However, Lusaka cited Masinde Muliro Stadium, Maturo Airstrip renovation, installation of street lights in Bungoma town and road improvements as part of the town's renovation plan.
Bungoma State Senator Wafula Wakoli, Trade and Industry PS Dr Juma Mukwana and Kimiriri MP Didmus Barasa were also present.
