Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a suspected drug trafficker in Mombasa during an intelligence-led investigation.
According to the DCI, its officers had received information regarding the involvement of Nigerian nationals in illegal trade.
Based on this information, a team of detectives was formed to raid foreigners' homes in Kisauni area.
The DCI indicated that officers found powdered polythene inside the house, a move that justified officers to conduct a thorough search of the house.
Cocaine and scales recovered during an operation in Lamu in April 2024.

A search of the home revealed a white powdery crack, carefully wrapped in a polythene bag, in a bedroom drawer.
“Presumptive testing confirmed that the concealed powder was indeed cocaine, hidden along with suspected repackaging material,” the DCI report said. “Additionally, various SIM cards were discovered. “It was written in part.”
Investigators said the cocaine recovered weighed 200 grams and had a street value of Sh600,000.
After the discovery, detectives arrested the suspect and took him to Minato Police Station.
The DCI added that its officers continue to interrogate the foreign national before his arraignment in court. The man will be charged with drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, the DCI added that it would continue its operations to crack down on drug traffickers on the coast.
Notably, the arrest of the Nigerian comes days after the arrest of seven suspected drug traffickers who were found in possession of cocaine and heroin in Mombasa and Kilifi counties.
“An intelligence-led operation by Anti-Narcotics Unit Takasho resulted in the seizure of approximately 928 grams of suspected cocaine, estimated to be over 3.7 million lice.
“The operation carried out in Lamu Central follows an escalation in the war against the sale, distribution and consumption of illegal drugs across the country,” the DCI said at the time.
DCI headquarters is located along Kiambu Road in Nairobi.
