National chain Dirty Dough Cookies is building a pavilion at Durbin Park in St. Johns County.
St. John's on April 29 issued a permit for $90,000 for interior work on the 1,470-square-foot space at 90 Pavilion Drive, Suite 203, Durban.
Dirty Do founder Bennett Maxwell said in an email that he expects construction to take 30 to 60 days.
According to the company's website, “Dirty Dough cookies are designed from the inside out, with each cookie featuring a combination of layers, mix-ins, or fillings within the dough.”
Maxwell said recipes are constantly changing based on sales data and feedback from cookie taste surveys.
The site says the term “dirty” in the name refers to the way the cookies are stuffed and layered. Among its products are flavors such as Monster Mashup, Chocolate Chip, and Raspberry Toaster Tart, made with chocolate, peanut butter, and M&M's.
“Cookies are a fun product that comes in an amazing variety of flavors,” Maxwell said. “Our first chocolate chip recipe was developed in our apartment kitchen at Arizona State University through much trial and error. Chocolate chip filling remains one of our most popular.”
There is one Dirty Dough Cookies open in Pensacola, Florida. The company's website lists his 60 stores operating across the country, with more planned. Stores in Sarasota and Orlando, Florida are said to be “opening soon.”
Maxwell said 11 of the stores currently open are company-owned and the remaining 51 are franchised. The company also franchises 15 food trucks.
Utah-based Guilford Land is the architect and DeLand-based Dane Group Inc. is the contractor. Dane has worked with numerous fast food chains including Dunkin', Burger King, Taco Bell, Subway, and Wendy's.
Customers can pick up cookies in-store or have them delivered.
Craveworthy Brands, a platform company that operates multiple fast-casual restaurant chains, announced in January that it had acquired Dirty Dough.
Craveworthy is headquartered in South Elgin, Illinois.
Brands include Genghis Grill, BD's Mongolian Grill, and Flat Top Grill. The company announced on May 2 that it had acquired Sigri Indian BBQ.
Craveworthy's founder and CEO is Gregg Majewski, former CEO of Jimmy John's Karaoke Sandwiches.
In 2022, Dirty Dough was sued by competing cookie company Crumbl for copyright infringement. Franchise Times reported that the lawsuit has been settled.
