Baku, Azerbaijan, May 2nd. The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) aims to promote tourism development in ECO member countries by promoting regional destinations, the organization's 13th Secretary-General Huslav Nojiri said at a meeting in Baku. Trend Report reported that he said this at the 1st ECO Tour Operator Forum.
“ECO's mission is to improve the economic development of its 10 member countries through a variety of activities such as transport, commerce, agriculture, energy and tourism. There are huge tourism opportunities to be gained by leveraging the Silk Road.
ECO Vision 2025 focuses on tourism, with the goal of unlocking economic benefits through capacity building and cooperation between Member States. “The main goals in promoting tourism in ECO member countries include highlighting regional attractions, expanding the tourism offer throughout the year, and strengthening capacity through information sharing and training activities,” he stressed.
The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) was established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan, and Turkiye as an intergovernmental regional organization aimed at promoting economic, technical, and cultural cooperation among member countries.
In 1992, the organization expanded further with the addition of seven new members: Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
