Srinagar: Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, leader of the People's Democratic Party Youth Party and parliamentary candidate from Srinagar-Pulwama constituency, on Wednesday said that he will be arrested under stringent laws such as the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The United States made a firm commitment to ensure the release of imprisoned Kashmiri youth who are being held in detention. Public Safety Act (PSA).
Para made the remarks while addressing a public meeting in Budgam. He also addressed several rallies held in Ganderbal, Budgam and Pulwama as part of the election campaign. Drawing on his own personal experience of spending two years in prison, Mr. Parra empathetically expresses his solidarity with incarcerated youth, highlighting their plight and the national platform. He emphasized the need to amplify voices.
He said he would draw the attention of the government in power to respond to the true aspirations of the people and grant amnesty to young people and students so that they can lead normal and dignified lives.
He also vowed to fight for political prisoners languishing in various prisons across the country and to try to bring them back to their homeland so that their families can visit them regularly.
He added that these families are experiencing severe suffering as it costs them thousands of dollars to travel and see their relatives. He said he would make great efforts to highlight these issues and bring issues to Kashmir once voting is held in the upcoming Sabah elections.
Mr Waheed highlighted the work initiated by party president Mehbooba Mufti when, as chief minister, he announced amnesty for first-time stone-pelting offenders against 4,500 youths in the valley.
He said the PDP has always believed in the process of dialogue and reconciliation. Para said the coercion and repression methods tried by this government had failed to bring about change in Kashmir. Dialogue and reconciliation have been effective in ending youth alienation and bringing about significant change. “We proved it during the Mufti Sahib government and also when Mehbooba Ji canceled the cases of hundreds of students,” he said.
He stressed the urgency of addressing the plight of forgotten people, highlighting the suffering of separation from their families and the widespread social neglect they face. He expressed his determination to champion their cause in Parliament if voted to power, vowing to vocally advocate for justice and the restoration of their fundamental rights.
He said he is determined to ensure that the voices of incarcerated youth are heard at the highest legislative body in the country and their grievances addressed.
