Commercial real estate insurance company FM Global has announced the launch of its Renewable Energy Division to help customers transition to alternative energy through research and innovation, and to support progress across the renewable energy industry.
FM Global's renewable energy sector leaders are:
- Jim O'Brien, Canada and Specialty Industries Manager
- Doug Patterson, Head of Renewable Energy
- Russell Jannetto, Renewable Energy Client Services Leader
- Chris Kosloski, Renewable Energy Underwriting Manager
- Cassian Walker, Renewable Energy Engineering Manager

FM Global announced this new initiative as part of its presence at the RISKWORLD conference in San Diego this week. In July, FM Global plans to provide new policies for renewable energy operations in the United States. Over the next year, we will be offering a renewable energy construction policy that supports clients from the design and construction phase through to the operation of renewable energy assets. This new division will serve the United States. It launches today in the U.S. and Canada and will be available globally later this year.
The FM Global Renewable Energy division focuses on research, standards development, and loss prevention engineering for utility-scale ground-mounted solar, onshore wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). FM Global has been serving power producers in these and countless other energy sectors, including hydropower, biomass, and waste-to-energy for 70 years.
As a research-driven organization, FM Global has recently completed six significant research projects in solar, wind and energy storage systems. A dozen more are underway. The company has already developed renewable energy guidelines for its customers, available free of charge on FM Global's Property Loss Prevention Data Sheet.
