Foreign Minister Israel Katz has announced increased security measures for Israeli embassies around the world, following growing concerns about possible arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Israeli politicians and Israeli Defense Force officials. issued a directive asking them to do so.
The move comes amid concerns that anti-Semitic sentiment will rise worldwide.
Circulating reports suggest that the ICC may issue warrants targeting Israeli officials in the near future. With this in mind, Katz stressed the need for active measures to counter the potential “wave of anti-Semitic, anti-Israel anti-Semitism” around the world.
“We cannot understate the threat posed to Jewish communities abroad,” Katz said, underscoring the seriousness of the situation. In addition to increasing security at Israeli embassies, he called on Jewish organizations around the world to work closely together in preparation for any potential developments, including coordinating increased security around Jewish organizations.
Minister Katz's appeal for increased vigilance also extends to Amichai Tsikli, the minister in charge of combating anti-Semitism. Katz emphasized his hope that the ICC will refrain from issuing warrants against Israeli officials. He expressed concern that such actions would not only undermine Israel's ability to defend itself but also strengthen extremist groups such as Hamas and Iranian-backed groups.
“We hope that the ICC will refrain from issuing arrest warrants for senior Israeli political and security officials,” Katz argued. “There is nothing more bizarre than trying to prevent Israel from defending itself against a vicious enemy who openly calls for the destruction of the state of Israel.”
In his statement, Katz emphasized Israel's commitment to complying with international law of war and providing humanitarian aid to Gaza, despite challenges from groups like Hamas that exploit civilians. He reiterated Israel's determination to fight terrorism and ensure the safety and security of its people.
“We will not bow our heads, we will not lose heart, and we will continue to fight until all the hostages are freed, the terrorist organization Hamas is defeated, and the people of the North and South return to their homes in peace and security,” Katz concluded.
