President William Ruto said the government is introducing new laws and policies to foster the growth of IT-enabled services in the country.
The President announced that the purpose of these measures is to assist the government in developing opportunities in the business process outsourcing (BPO) services sector.
As a result, the government is strengthening the country's competitiveness and aligning it with global standards to accelerate the growth of the BPO market and other IT-enabled services.
He said the goal is to increase government investment in domestic broadband and related infrastructure, including digital hubs, and create jobs for at least one million digital workers over the next five years.
“We are determined to claim a fair share of the BPO pie for the benefit of young men and women who want to contribute to economic growth,” he said.
He said Kenya's strengths include a large and skilled young workforce, government policies that prioritize the digital economy as a strategic pillar of the bottom-up economic transformation agenda, an education system that focuses on digital skills, and a strategic geographical location. He pointed out the location. Proficiency in English, a language widely used in world time zones and major economies.
President Ruto made the remarks amid the launch of the Call Center International (CCI) Global Contact Center in Tatu City, Ruiru, Kiambu County, which has already created over 5,000 jobs.
Those in attendance included Rebecca Miano and Eliud Owaro, Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi, and US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman.
The President said the government is strengthening existing laws to create a conducive environment for the ICT-BPO industry to flourish.
“Our goal is to develop sector-specific legislation in line with international standards in the short, medium and long term,” he said.
President Ruto said the government's efforts to strengthen the sector include enforcement of BPO standards that meet international best practices, renewal of financial and non-financial incentives to keep pace with technological advances, green energy He explained that this includes investments in.
He said the government is also working with the private sector to strengthen skills training for Kenyan youth to ensure they are prepared for the jobs of the future.
“These initiatives demonstrate our commitment to fostering a thriving, sustainable and globally competitive BPO sector in Kenya,” he said.
The President appealed to investors to cooperate with the government on the Digital Hub Program for the success and expansion of BPO businesses.
