Several parts of India are experiencing a heat wave, increasing the chances of heat stroke and related illnesses. Earlier on May 3, it was reported that hospitals across India were seeing an unprecedented surge in patients suffering from heat-related illnesses, with experts saying that as a severe heat wave continues to hit the country. It warned that the number of cases could rise within the next few days. The National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has also set up a digital platform to record cases and deaths due to heat stroke. Officials said doctors at 120 public hospitals in 21 states will now upload data directly to the platform to help public health policy makers make informed decisions.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has compiled a list of first aid measures you should know if you feel dizzy or anxious.
1. Drink water to stay hydrated.
2. Loosen clothing if possible
3. Move to a cool place immediately
4. Place a sponge or cloth soaked in water on your forehead. Additionally, you can apply ice to your forehead, neck, and wrists to cool your body.
5. If the animal is unconscious, do not force feed or water it.
6. The ministry also says that if symptoms persist, people should go to the nearest hospital or call an ambulance.
Here are some signs of heatstroke in children you should know about.
1. Refusal of food
2. Excessive irritability
3. Decreased urine output
4. Oral mucosa is dry, without tears or depressions.
5. Lethargy or sensory changes
6. Seizure
7. Bleeding from any part
Signs of heatstroke in adults:
The Ministry of Health also lists eight signs of heat stroke in adults. they are:
1. Changes in mental sensation
2. Your skin is hot, red, and dry.
3. High body temperature
4. Severe headache
5. Anxiety, dizziness, fainting, light-headedness
6. Muscle weakness and cramps
7. Nausea and vomiting
8. Rapid heat.
IMD heat wave forecast
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heatwave conditions to occur in isolated areas of Saurashtra-Kutch and Gujarat regions for the next five days. The weather department has also predicted heatwave conditions for May 7 in interior states of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Karnataka. Over western Rajasthan from May 7th to 10th. Over eastern Rajasthan and western Madhya Pradesh from May 8th to 10th. The IMD also said that hot and humid weather is very likely to prevail in isolated pockets of coastal states of Kerala, Mahe and Karnataka over the next three days. Notably, the Bureau of Meteorology also said that the region may continue to experience humid weather with thunderstorms until May 10, leading to easing of heatwave conditions in the eastern and southern peninsular regions of the country. He added that it was highly likely.
