Heatwave in India: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the heatwave will weaken in certain parts of the country and then return. In Rajasthan too, the heat wave situation is expected to continue till May 10 and weaken thereafter.
IMD said the effects of the heat wave are likely to continue in western Rajasthan on May 9 and 10 and are likely to subside after that. In the past 24 hours, heatwave conditions prevailed in certain parts of western Rajasthan with maximum temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius.
A maximum temperature of 45.9 degrees Celsius was reported in Barmer, Rajasthan.
Heatwave in India: Forecast for next 5 days
The maximum temperature in northwestern India is expected to remain unchanged for the next two days and then drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius, the weather department said.
In central India, the maximum temperature is expected to drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours, followed by a rise of 2-4 degrees Celsius thereafter.
The rest of the country is not expected to see any major changes in maximum temperatures.
In the past 24 hours, many parts of West Rajasthan and isolated areas of East Rajasthan witnessed maximum temperatures in the range of 43-46 degrees Celsius, while many parts of Madhya Pradesh saw maximum temperatures in the range of 40-43 degrees Celsius. Kerala is also expected to experience a heat wave on May 9. Hot and humid weather is very likely to prevail in isolated pockets of coastal areas of Gujarat during the next five days.
IMD recommendations for heatwaves
Orange Alert Area: IMD has warned that people who are exposed to the sun for long periods of time or do heavy physical labor are more likely to develop symptoms of heat stroke. It also issued a warning to vulnerable populations, including infants, the elderly and people with chronic conditions that pose high health concerns.
The public is advised to avoid heat exposure, avoid dehydration, drink plenty of water even if you are not thirsty, and stay hydrated by drinking ORS, homemade drinks, lemon water, buttermilk, etc. called out.
Yellow Alert Area: IMD has warned of moderate health concerns for vulnerable populations, including infants, the elderly and people with chronic illnesses, but heat levels are tolerable for the general population. He said he was deaf.
It asked people to avoid heat exposure, wear light, light-colored, loose-fitting cotton clothing, and cover up the heat with cloth, hats, and umbrellas.
