BISMARCK, N.D. – State Schools Superintendent Kirsten Beisler announced Wednesday that the deadline for recruiting applications to the North Dakota Higher Education Commission has been extended to Monday, May 6, at 5 p.m.
“This additional number of days will give board candidates an additional two weekends to think about their applications and prepare materials,” Baesler said Wednesday. “I encourage North Dakotans interested in education to consider applying to this prestigious commission.”
The original deadline passed on Wednesday, April 24th at 5pm. The Higher Education Commission is an eight-voting, policy-making and advocacy committee serving North Dakota's 11 public colleges and universities.
Bismarck incumbent John Warford's four-year term as vice chairman of the board ends June 30. Mr. Warford has not applied for appointment to a second term.
North Dakotans who earned a bachelor's degree from North Dakota State University are not eligible to apply for the pending vacancy because there are already two NDSU graduates on the board. The state constitution stipulates that only two baccalaureate degree students can be affiliated with one of her schools in the North Dakota University System at a time.
The governor appoints members of the Higher Education Commission. Bassler is the chairman of a five-member committee that reviews applicants and sends a list of potential candidates to the governor. The composition of the commission is provided for in the North Dakota Constitution.
Applications can be emailed to the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction at dpipa@nd.gov or sent by regular mail to NDDPI, 600 E. Boulevard Ave., Dept. 201, Bismarck, ND, 58505. Masu.
Candidates must complete a one-page application and submit a resume and up to six references. They must have lived in North Dakota for the past five years. You may not have been employed or paid by the University System of North Dakota within the past two years.
