New Finder research has revealed what Australians worry most about when looking for a property – and it can cost homeowners thousands of dollars.

Signs of mold and damp are the biggest downside to a property, with 72% of respondents saying it made them feel uncomfortable.

Neighborhood noise (56%) and unpleasant odors (such as indoor smoking) round out the top three red flags that turn buyers away.
Finder money expert Rebecca Pike said these shared property “problems” could be driving down home values.
“There's something about this property that Australians can't miss,” she says.
“These buyer defections can be the difference between selling your home for top dollar or letting it sit on the market for months.
“These issues can impact maintenance costs and insurance premiums.”

A little further down the list, property hunters also said they may be a little averse to animals, with almost half of respondents walking in the opposite direction if they saw any signs of bugs. , 38% said they were disgusted by seeing traces of their pets.
However, if a smart buyer is willing to ignore these “problems,” they may be able to use this finding to their advantage and find a bargain.
Pest control can be expensive and turns off many buyers.
“Be open-minded and understand which problems can be solved quickly and which are long-term headaches,” Ms. Pike said.
“The good news is that many of these top turnoffs can be fixed with a little effort.”
Ms Pike urged home seekers never to buy a property without first arranging a building and pest inspection.
“For a small outlay of less than $1,000, any structural, drainage, plumbing, or termite damage concerns will be highlighted.
“This is an investment that can lead to significant savings in the long run.”
