During the meeting, the IMBISA Justice and Peace Delegation expressed its desire to strengthen cooperation between regional countries in safeguarding social justice.
Strengthening rights protection in MBIDA
Delegates resolved to strengthen advocacy for justice and peace in their countries and in the region. They pledged to strengthen relationships between the church and other local institutions. In the future, the Justice and Peace Commission will also aim to better address issues involving the state and church in modern democracies. The strategy and impact of the Justice and Peace Commission were shared and discussed.
Preemptive strategies to end election violence
One of the issues that arose was the need for the Commission to proactively prevent electoral violence.
Antonio Julius Sandamo, Chair of the IMBISA Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace and Bishop of Pemba, Mozambique, expressed concern about the state of democracy in the region and reiterated concern over repeated electoral violence in member states.
