The Sustainable Energy Agency of Ireland (SEAI) has announced that it will invest €20 million of government funding in energy research and innovation this year.
According to SEAI, the funding will go toward energy research, development and demonstration (RD&D) projects that will accelerate Ireland's transition to a clean and secure energy future.
Since 2018, more than 240 projects have been implemented based on previous funding in areas such as energy system integration, energy efficiency, energy markets and smart grids.
Environment Secretary Eamonn Ryan said: “New technologies, approaches and solutions are urgently needed to develop sustainable, safe and affordable energy systems for the transition to a clean energy future. “Research and innovation are essential to accelerate Ireland's path to decarbonisation.” We provide more effective technical solutions. ”
The Irish government wants 80% of its energy market to come from renewable energy by 2030. PV magazine reported targets including 8 GW of solar power by the end of the decade. The country has installed 738MW by the end of 2023, according to figures from the International Renewable Energy Agency.
