We're just four days away from celebrating one month since the series-changing New York trade for OG Anunoby.
Less than two weeks have passed since the Feb. 8 trade deadline. This means things are starting to heat up in the rumor mill, while people in the front office are burning smartphone batteries day and night to keep in touch with those around them. Association.
In the last few days, two wonderful young people (mainly) from here… SNY (Ian Begley) and Yahoo (Jake Fischer) provided us with new information based on information obtained from league executives and those involved in the inner workings of all 30 NBA franchises.
Things get old quickly when it comes to deals and rumors, so here's a quick update on what these two and others from other publishing platforms have shared with the free world.
Quentin Grimes is making waves on the cutting board.
First of all, the Knicks seem determined to move on. Quentin Grimes He will be traded away until February 8th or next summer.
Two weeks ago, we first heard that New York was interested in trading third-year guard Grimes. As a result, the team has been actively shopping around, even reportedly offering Grimes in a trade package.
According to SNY's Ian Begley, the Knicks “called Grimes as the deadline approached.” Begley added some interesting tidbits that weren't widely known until he shared the information, naming the Atlanta Hawks, Washington Wizards and Utah Jazz “among the teams interested in Grimes.”
This is interesting because, according to multiple reports, the Knicks have expressed interest in trading players currently registered with these franchises in recent days and weeks.
The degree varies, but a quick summary is as follows:
- Apparently targeted at the Hawks: Dejounte Murray, AJ Griffin, Clint Capela
- Wizards targeted: Tyus Jones, Daniel Gafford
- Seems to be targeted at jazz: Jordan Clarkson, Kelly Olynyk
Grimes told SNY after the Knicks beat the Nuggets last Thursday. That's why I come to work every day, do my job, and try to be professional.
“Rumors happen. I'm just going to get on the court and do everything I can to help this team win.”
Grimes is under contract for one more season after this season (team option). The player will make about $2.4 million this year, but that number will rise to $4.3 million next offseason if New York exercises his 2024-25 option.
It's worth noting that Grimes and the Knicks will find themselves in a situation similar to last October, when the franchise had to deal with Immanuel Quickley's contract extension. The two options are to sign Grimes to a multi-year contract extension (he has until the end of October 2024 to sign that extension) or keep him on his current rookie-sized contract until he becomes a restricted free agent in July 2025. The question is whether to maintain it.
The Knicks and IQ were unable to reach an agreement last year, which led to New York trading Quickley to Toronto on Dec. 30 as part of a package sent to the Raptors in exchange for OG Anunoby.

Is Daniel Gafford back on the New York Knicks radar?
In the same report, Begley brought back a familiar player who hasn't been talked about much lately at the Wizards Center. Daniel Gafford.
The Knicks have one of the following, but even if they don't: of The best center rotation in the NBA, the truth is, considering both Mitchell Robinson (out until the end of the regular season, assuming he returns) and Isaiah Hartenstein (on consecutive days) are out. The tier chart is C1 Jericho Sims. C2 Precious Achiuwa. In other words, not very good!
A few days ago, I wrote a column listing four players that all of the most reputable insiders around the world are linking to the Knicks for a possible pre-deadline trade, with information that overlaps with similar and disparate sources. Featured in the report. Gafford was named to the list.
michael scott hoop hype In mid-January, the most vocal link between New York and Gafford was Matt Moore. action network We also recently discussed Gafford as a target for the Knicks.
On Friday, Begley revealed a source confirmed that the Knicks are “looking at Wizards big man Daniel Gafford.”
According to Begley, “the interest in Gafford comes while New York deals with injuries to Isaiah Hartenstein and Mitchell Robinson,” adding, “The interest in Gafford comes at a time when New York is dealing with injuries to Isaiah Hartenstein and Mitchell Robinson.” There are some concerns about his ability to participate.”

Adding a point guard remains a priority for the New York Knicks
After third pre-deadline trade involving Miami Heat and two-guard (after Toronto sent OG and Pascal Siakam) terry rosier The former Charlotte Hornets point guard market appears to be (re)forming ahead of the February 8 deadline.
The Heat sent a protected first-round pick and a veteran point guard to add Rozier to the roster. kyle lowry (He won't play until he's acquired by mid-February.) Conversely, it's expected that other franchises will be asked to provide information on the state of the trade market and what they would require when trading for a fellow playmaker. There is a possibility that the .
Rozier signed a four-year contract in 2022, making him a hefty $23.2 million this season, the second year of that deal, with close to $25 million guaranteed over the next two years.
According to Fred Katz of New York, New York is considering trading players who are under contract for at least next season. athletic, Not only can the offense run when Jalen Brunson is injured or rested;”
Yahoo's Jake Fischer wrote an article on Friday mentioning a number of point guards in the league who could be moved by mid-February, and sources in contact with the NBA front office said the position revealed the acquisition prices of several players.
All tier 2 trade targets at that time (Wizards) Tyus Jones, blazer Malcolm Brogdonraptors bruce brown jr.A source who spoke to Yahoo said the franchise team is expected to receive “at least a first-round pick.”
At a higher level, the Atlanta Hawks are “looking for two first-round picks.” and Farewell to a starting player dejounte murray (Emphasis my).
It's safe to say the Knicks won't go down that path. That's not just because there's probably not as much interest in Murray's skill set or the player he'd fit next to Brunson, but also because it's unlikely the Hawks would take Grimes, Fournier, and the two of them first. Round picks are the preferred packaging.
According to Fisher, the Los Angeles Lakers have already submitted an offer to the Hawks. D'Angelo Russell, 2019 first-round pick, pick swap, salary filler. It's up to you (and the Hawks) to decide how that package compares to what New York can offer.
Mr. Fisher also listed a number of Jazz players available on the trade market, most notably jordan clarkson, colin sextonand talen horton tucker. There are no rumors linking the latter two to the Knicks, but there are plenty of rumors surrounding the former sixth man and microwave scorer. However, the Jazz are “considered to be both buyers and sellers,” which could make a deal with any player difficult due to the price tag for acquiring some players.
Finally, as February 8 approaches, Fisher has added a few names he's never heard of before to the list of point guards “known to be available.” Davion Mitchell (Kings), Cameron Payne (Bucks), Devonte Graham (Spurs), and cory joseph (warriors).
