The Coachella Valley Cannabis Alliance Network discusses the benefits of combining cannabis and tourism.
Our crew visited Miracle Springs Resort and Spa where “Let’s Talk Cannabis Tourism” was held on Thursday night.
Cannabis and tourism may seem like an unlikely combination to some.
The event was a networking mixer of sorts, bringing together people from various industries under one roof.
There were more than a dozen booths and dozens of people in attendance, including some from out of state. They're all there to learn more about the economic benefits of combining cannabis and tourism.
These industries include hotel and hospitality staff, educators, and destination marketing organizations like Visit Greater Palm Springs.
Attendees listened to presentations highlighting research and data showing the benefits of making cities and businesses cannabis-friendly.
said Brian Applegarth, founder of Applegarth Strategies. “Thinking beyond inhalation and smoking, and thinking about topical applications in spas, beverages, edibles, and culinary experiences. What's special about cannabis is that it impacts the visitor ecosystem and the entire tourism ecosystem in a variety of ways. It’s really about being integrated.”
One way cannabis industry leaders hope to link cannabis and tourism is by emphasizing cannabis experiences that tourists can enjoy.
Then various businesses and hospitality groups can recommend those places to tourists.
Additionally, cities like Desert Hot Springs are reviewing their ordinances and working on changes to become more cannabis-friendly and ultimately grow business within the city.
