Former county councilor (MCA) Dennis Wambua has been sentenced to two years in prison without the option of a fine for threatening to kill incumbent MCA Dennis Kioko Mainga.
Wambua was sentenced on Friday, May 3, by Milimani Senior Magistrate Zainab Abdul for threatening to kill Kioko, the incumbent MCA of Kiteta Kisau Ward.

When did Wambua threaten Kioko?
A video that went viral in March 2023 during dowry negotiations shows Wambua vowing to kill his opponent for stealing votes in the August 2022 general election.
“I cannot compromise. Either the current MCA dies or I die. I cannot afford to have my vote stolen and then I will be ordered to pay him Sh1 million,” Wambua warned. .
Wambua was then arraigned at the Makueni court on March 11, 2023, for threatening to kill Kioko in Ngoni village, Makueni East constituency, Makueni district.
Why is Wambua losing?
Abdul said in his judgment that MCA's relatives who attended the dowry negotiation ceremony admitted that they heard him vow to kill MCA.
Wambua was sentenced under Article 215 of the Constitution. The same section provides that if any person is charged with an offense, the conviction of the offender shall have effect as a conviction in the case without further order.

Abdul gave Wambua 14 days to appeal the sentence.
Former MCA convicted of murdering wife
In April, former Kiambu MCA Samuel Ndungwu and two others were found guilty of torturing and killing his wife Lucy Njambi in 2018.
Justice Joel Ngugi said the evidence presented to the court implicated Mr Ndung'u and his two partners as accomplices in the murder of his wife.
