Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Dr Uzir Mahiddin said in a statement today that sales growth has shown a positive year-on-year trend for three consecutive months, mainly due to non-metallic mineral products and basic metals' sales growth of 9.6%. % increase. and metalwork.

Mohd Uzil said that sales of export-oriented industries, which account for 70.4% of total sales, decreased slightly by 0.2% in March 2024, following a 1.7% decline in the previous month.
“This decrease was due to the production of coke and refined petroleum products (-6.7%), production of vegetable and animal fats and oils (-5.5%), and production of chemicals and chemical products (-3.0%).” subsector,” he said.
On the contrary, Mohd Uzil said the domestic industry remains vibrant and will grow by 5.4% in March 2024 compared to 6.5% in the previous month.
“This expansion was driven by double-digit growth in the manufacturing of processed metal products, excluding machinery and equipment, which accelerated to 16.6%. Additionally, the manufacturing of food processed products and the manufacturing of other non-metallic mineral products also contributed to growth. Mohd Uzil said salaries and wages paid in the manufacturing industry increased by 0.7% year-on-year to RM8.23 billion in March 2024, while the average monthly salary and wages per employee increased by 0.2% to RM8.23 billion.
