NEW DELHI: BJP president JP Nadda on Sunday criticized Mamata Banerjee over the seizure of arms and ammunition by the CBI in Sandeshkhali, saying people are fed up with the anarchy under West Bengal Chief Minister and that her The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has said it sympathizes with terrorists. .
In a video address, Nadda questioned whether Banerjee was trying to win the Lok Sabha elections by “intimiding and intimidating the people”. Nadda expressed the party's support for the women in Sandeshkhali who were allegedly sexually assaulted by former TMC strongman Shahjahan Sheikh and his associates. Sheikh is currently suspended by the TMC and is in CBI custody, where he is also facing charges of land grabbing by locals.
At a rally in Murshidabad, Nadda accused Banerjee of being “soft on terrorism”. “We want 'Majboo Sarkar' but Mamata Banerjee wants 'Majboo Sarkar'. We are against her politics of appeasement in favor of infiltrators… Her government is terrorist I feel sorry for him,” Nadda said.
The CBI on Friday searched two premises belonging to Sheikh's associates and seized weapons and ammunition, including police revolvers and foreign-made firearms. These searches were carried out in connection with an attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team in January by a mob allegedly instigated by Sheikh.
Nadda said Banerjee was making a grave mistake if she believed she could win elections through “blackmail and intimidation” and asserted that “the people will teach her a lesson.”
According to Nadda, the Bharatiya Janata Party demonstrated its support for women's empowerment by fielding a Sandeshhari victim as one of its parliamentary candidates. He stressed that the Sandeshhari victims were not alone and had the support of the entire country.
On Saturday, Banerjee claimed there was “no evidence” that arms and ammunition were recovered from Sandeshkari and suggested that the CBI team carried out the search without informing the state police. She expressed her skepticism about the operation, hinting that the recovered items “may have been brought in by central agency personnel.”
Meanwhile, BJP leader Amit Malviya claimed on social media that TMC members attacked Saraswati Sarkar of BJP's Kasba Mondal (South Kolkata) president. “No woman is safe in West Bengal. Last night, TMC miscreants targeted Saraswati Sarkar of BJP's Kasba Mondal (South Kolkata) president. Mamata Banerjee is a colossal disaster as Bengal Home Minister. If Kolkata “Imagine how bad it would be if we weren't safe,” Sandesh Hari said. “The people of Bengal will react to these atrocities,” Malviya posted on X (formerly Twitter).
