The Straits Times reported that in April, the Mandai Wildlife Group was spotted swimming strangely in circles and sideways at the Mekong River Exhibition Center at River Wonders in the Mandai Wildlife Sanctuary. Mandai Wildlife Group's first CT scan of the fish after it was discovered reportedly showed it was a Bala shark.
On May 8, Mandai Wildlife Group's veterinary medical and animal care team decided to perform the first-ever CT scan of a fish.
The fish were sedated in a folded wet sponge inside a container and subjected to a CT scan in an upright position, which took only 45 seconds.
Everything took less than 40 minutes, including preparation and recovery. The Bala shark is believed to have sustained soft tissue damage, as scans showed no fractures.
Dr. Xie Shangzhe, Mandai Wildlife Group's vice president of veterinary health, said the shark was given anti-inflammatory drugs and kept under observation for two weeks, after which it is expected to return to normal.
The Bala shark, which is native to Southeast Asia, is an omnivorous freshwater fish with a maximum body length of 35 cm. This species' giant fins and torpedo-shaped body give it the name “shark,” even though it's not real.
CT scans produce three-dimensional images that contain more information than X-rays, which can only produce two-dimensional images and can miss small changes in the bala shark.

Mandai Wildlife Group and Microsoft
Mandai Wildlife Group (MWG) continues to utilize different technologies in different ways. Microsoft wrote an article in his January article about how MWG uses various programs.
With support from Khairulnizam Zulkifle, senior manager of transformation office at Mandai Wildlife Group, Singapore Zoo's park operations team leverages Microsoft's Power Platform to enhance internal workflows and improve visitor experience at the wildlife park. We have developed an application to improve your experience.
Microsoft's Power Platform provides a set of tools that allow you to develop applications without any coding knowledge.
To facilitate daily inspections for visitor safety, the team developed an app to replace the paper checklists typically used. This software allows users to perform several tasks quickly and easily, such as stocking vehicles and first aid kits.
MWG's Microsoft-powered applications
In addition to battling paper checklists, teams also have to deal with numerous senior management members chasing checklists around the office park before and after business hours to get signatures on these paper documents. there was.
The app allows the team to check things on their phones whenever and wherever they want, making travel safer and more efficient.
It was also mentioned that the MWG team is looking to integrate the Power Platform into additional domains such as first aid, employee uniform management systems, lost and found, and wild code hackathons.
