Former Bungo State Governor Wycliffe Wangamati's family has been hit by the confiscation of millions of assets.
The site in Toyokoma City was demolished to make way for the construction of Masinde Murillo Stadium.
The family said the property, whose value was close to Sh500 million, was demolished to facilitate the construction process of Masinde Muliro Stadium, which will host this year's Spotted Day celebrations.
Mr Wangamati, who spoke on Sunday, May 5, denied charges of stealing the land on which the property was located.
“I did not acquire this land illegally. It was advertised as such. I applied for it and received it, so I drove to a gas station called Agip gas station,” he said.
He accused the Bungo city government of failing to comply with a court order that granted an injunction to stop the building's demolition.
“The verdict will be out in six months. Why not wait six months and then make a decision,” Wangamati said.
The former governor further blamed the demolition of his family's property on a political witch hunt.
“I can say without fear of contradiction that this is a witch hunt for politics in 2027,” he argued.
Patrick Wangamati, on the other hand, claimed to have legal documents proving his leasehold interest in the land.
