The Immigration Department announced on Friday, May 10, that it has set up a desk at Nyayo House to assist in the rapid replacement of personal documents, including identity documents, lost in the floods.
Chief Immigration Commissioner Julius Bitoku made the announcement during a tree-planting exercise at the Kenya Meat Research Institute in Mavoko, Machakos County.
The PS said similar desks will be set up across the country to resolve threats in the shortest possible time.
“We are ready to move across the country to ensure that each person has new documents in the shortest possible time,” the PS said.

In his presentation, Bitok noted that many people have been affected by the ongoing floods. Kenyans lose not only personal registration documents but also property These were essential for everyday identification and transactions.
“More than 286,000 people were affected by flooding in the country, nearly 47,000 households were evacuated, and more than 200 deaths were reported in 37 of the country's 47 counties,” Bitok said.
Meanwhile, the PS also appealed to Kenyans to plant more trees as a means of mitigating floods and other extreme weather events.
“We will plant 3,000 trees in the area, while also working with other Kenyans to ensure there are enough trees to fight flooding and mitigate the effects of climate change,” Bitoku said. said.
Bitok's instructions regarding the replacement of lost documents came weeks after Interior Minister Kisre Kindiki noted that challenges affecting the production of passports had been resolved.
Kindiki said Kenyans will start receiving passports from May 1 within 21 days of applying.
The CS further said that the 21 days will be reduced to seven days and then to three days by November this year.
“The government has addressed historic bottlenecks that have frustrated many Kenyans seeking to obtain a Kenyan passport,” Kindiki said.
