The Ministry of Law and Constitution will begin construction of a regional office in Soroti City at an estimated cost of Sh7.3 billion.
The project is expected to be completed within 18 months. The three-story building will accommodate eight state prosecutors, as well as parking space, executive offices, a nursing room, and a cafeteria.
Paul Muzale, principal assistant secretary in the Ministry of Justice and Constitution, on Monday thanked the city government and the local community for providing land for the office. He stressed that the establishment of the regional office will facilitate access to services across the Teso sub-region.
Mr Muzare called on the contractor, SMS Construction Ltd, to uphold high standards to ensure the durability and aesthetic appeal of the building.
“Throughout our projects, we expect full compliance with all standards and specifications through the use of certified materials,” he said.
Mr Muzare also confirmed the ministry's commitment to providing adequate resources for timely construction, including prompt payment of insurance claims.
Resident and City Commissioner James Chemtai pledged full support to ensure the smooth progress of the project and urged the contractor to promote community ownership and create employment opportunities for youth. encouraged the involvement of local residents.
