Mombasa has emerged as the third most popular tourist destination in the world in 2024 due to its affordability, according to a study conducted by the Post Office.
The Post Office's Travel Money Survey lists tourists as: Mombasa approved as preferred holiday destination As prices of major items were recorded to have fallen by 7%.
Some of the items sampled include: Coffee, beer, soft drinks, wine and mineral water.
The survey also sampled the prices of sunscreen, insect repellent, and a multi-course dinner for two.

Insect repellent, a must-have item for most tourists, was found to be cheapest in Kenya at Ksh127.
This was in contrast to downtown Dubai, where the same product was found to be sold for 1,636 lice.
Major items decreased by 7% Mombasa moved up one place from the 2023 ranking. Only Hoi An, Vietnam and Cape Town, South Africa beat this.
Tokyo, Japan ranked fourth, followed by Portugal's Algarve and Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh.
Other world cities in the top 10 list included Sunny Beach in Bulgaria, Kuta in Mali, Marmaris in Turkey and Paphos in Cyprus.
A cup of filter coffee sold at local cafes and bars in Mombasa, Kenya is found to be retailing for Ksh219.
There was also Mombasa Turns out it boasts one of the cheapest beers in the world 330ml is sold to tourists for Ksh328.
For tourists, a three-course dinner for two including a bottle of house wine costs 6,248 kronor.
This was in contrast to the same price in Tamarindo, Costa Rica, which was Sh17,569.
