More than half of the nation's 35.5 million people with disabilities (PWD) need basic education in order to interact with people with disabilities around the world.
The Executive Director of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), James Lall, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja.
Lalu spoke while receiving the President, Nigeria Air Force Officers Wives Association (NAFOWA), Rakiya Abubakar, at the commission’s headquarters.
He pointed out that disability issues remain a phenomenon that requires all efforts to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities.
Mr. Larue said the commission is ready to partner with NAFOWA in the area of educational advancement of persons with disabilities and other social inclusion needs.
“We are open to cooperation with NAFOWA, as one of our missions is to improve the quality of education, health services and the general welfare of people with disabilities. .
“We hope and believe that this collaboration will improve the quality of life for the 35.5 million disabled people across Nigeria’s disability community,” he said.
The NAFOWA President reiterated the association's commitment to strengthening partnerships and advocacy for the realization of inclusive education for persons with disabilities.
She said NAFOWA has been at the forefront of mainstreaming disability inclusion for people with social needs.
“We strongly believe that all people, especially people with disabilities, deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential.
“That is why we are focused on creating special schools for people with special needs, which provide education and treatment services to help people with disabilities reach their potential,” she said. Ta.
