The Nairobi County Assembly Housing Committee is calling for the county planning committee to be dissolved, citing a lack of transparency in approving buildings in the city.
Members of the Housing Commission accused the Planning Commission of approving illegal constructions in the city since it came to power.
Led by Nasra Nanda, they said the committee had failed to provide information on approved buildings to the district assembly and accused it of trying to usurp the House committee's oversight role.
The request comes as the county embarks on an audit of buildings built in the city over the past two years, halting the approval of building plans and further excavation at construction sites in the county.
National Housing Commission Chairman Nasra Nanda said: “The Development Framework is still under consideration in Parliament and will not exist until it is approved. As Chair, I will continue to ensure that I uphold my role as an implementer.”
