East Sussex residents claim plans for a food waste site are “in the wrong place” and have called a meeting to “stop the impasse”.
LDC said the facility does not process food waste and is intended for short-term waste transfer.
Newhaven North LDC councilor Sean McLeod, who is opposed to the plans, said: “It's right next to the playground so there's going to be some smells.”
Mr MacLeod told the BBC: “It's so densely packed that there's a real risk of an increase in pests and nuisance to neighbours.”
“The lack of consultation is surprising and I would like to see other viable locations within the district considered.”
Council will consider concerns
“A significant number of comments were received shortly before the committee meeting, meaning that we were not able to fully consider them,” LDC said in a statement.
“Council officers will consider all of that and any substantive issues will come before the planning committee in the future.”
Officials said food waste will be stored in “insect-proof sealed containers”, which will also be changed daily, and “gabion walls will be installed to reduce noise.”
The site is now owned by East Sussex County Council and was once a domestic waste and recycling centre.
A community rally against the depot will be held at Newhaven's Hillcrest Center on Friday from 18:30 BST.
The opening date of the site is unknown at this time.
