The Local Sport Grants Program provides support to grassroots sports clubs to increase participation, host events, improve access and upgrade sports and recreation facilities.
The round raised a total of $4.65 million, with each elector having access to $50,000 and grants of up to $20,000 for individual projects.
In New South Wales, the initiative has had a significant impact on football, with more than $669,000 allocated directly to the sport. This funding covers participation programs and infrastructure enhancements, and is spread across both metropolitan and rural areas.
The various Football NSW associations have benefited significantly from this fund, with over $550,000 allocated. Among these, the Southern District Soccer Football Association (SDSFA), Granville District Soccer Football Association (GDSFA) and Football Canterbury stand out as the main beneficiaries.
SDSFA clubs have received approval for eight grants totaling more than $76,000 aimed at reducing cost barriers to soccer participation and enhancing the training environment through specialized equipment, coaching courses and apparel.
GDSFA, NSW's oldest soccer association, received more than $68,000 for four projects. Parramatta Eagles FC, Granville Waratah Soccer FC and Regent's Park Saints FC all make changes to their women's programs, from equipment to women's programs, to accommodate the rapid growth in women's football this year following the FIFA Women's World Cup. He received the highest amount ever, $20,000.
Women's soccer has been on the rise since the World Cup, with female player participation increasing by 17% since the start of the year.
Football Canterbury Club also received a significant donation of over $48,000, reflecting the region's high participation rate and commitment to catering to a diverse audience. Most successful grant applications focus on program-based initiatives, providing accessible pathways to soccer for individuals of all ages and abilities.
Registrations for Football Canterbury are soaring, with the association expecting a 10% increase in participants from the 2023 season, with more than 19,400 participants registered in 2024.
Football NSW's Government Relations, Funding and Infrastructure Manager Daniel Ristic highlighted the importance of this funding.
“The Local Sport Grants Program provides football clubs with considerable flexibility, allowing them to access funding for a wide range of needs, including programs, essential equipment and smaller infrastructure projects.
“Thank you again to the Government for this continued funding. This program is making a real difference to local grassroots clubs across NSW every year.”
