The Oyo State Government is implementing a civil registration program related to government services and services.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on ICT and E-Government, Bayo Akande, disclosed this in an interview with the Nigeria Tribune.
He stressed that residents will soon be required to possess a state identification card and be registered in a government database when accessing government services and services.
Approximately 500,000 residents have enrolled since the program began in 2021.
Akande said that by the second quarter of this year, possession of a resident registration card would be a prerequisite for benefiting from state government services such as palliative care, education and health services.
Mr. Akande emphasized the importance of citizen registration for planning and security purposes.
In recent months, efforts have been made to increase registration points, particularly at local government offices, despite challenges leading to a decline in registration points.
Special attention is also given to the registration of commercial motorcycles, known as Okada riders.
Akande reported that around 60,000 Okada riders have registered in the past few months and the deadline has been extended to allow more riders to register.
Additionally, legislation is being drafted that would require commercial motorcyclists to wear reflective jackets while on the job.

He explained: “These datasets will be used to make governance much easier and make informed decisions. After the deadline, many government initiatives will be tied to this register.”
For example, beneficiaries of free education and medical palliatives must register.
The ultimate goal is to provide residents with a state ID card that includes health records and serves as a primary form of identification for transportation and safety purposes.
Despite the apparent slowdown, Akande revealed that the focus on registering Okada riders contributed to the decline in the perceived pace of registrations.
However, efforts are ongoing to accelerate registration to ensure compliance with future regulations for commercial motorcyclists in Oyo State.
