Robotic lawn mowers, goal posts, archery equipment, life jackets and scrum machines. These are just some of the items that Wexford clubs and organizations will be purchasing in the coming weeks after receiving confirmation that their application for a sporting goods grant has been successful.
A total of €886,036 has been allocated to Wexford's 34 clubs, as confirmed by James Brown, Minister for Law Reform, who said these grants do not seek funding for capital measures. He emphasized that it only concerns the application.
Evaluation of capital grant applications will begin on a case-by-case basis in the future.
“Today’s grants will benefit organizations across County Wexford. Wexford Gymnastics Stadium will benefit from a new spring floor worth €62,418. “€97,021 will be awarded to replace engines on rowing boats and safety boats,” the Enniscorthy TD said. €63,735 will be awarded to Wexford County Athletics Board for the purchase of equipment.
“The ability of clubs to perform well in their favorite sport will be greatly improved by the many other enthusiastic clubs across a variety of sporting interests, which is why the Government has announced that the County Wexford Group We play our part by encouraging organizations to run ambitious, well-organized and well-equipped sports activities that have a lasting impact on their communities.
“We will continue to discuss the merits of the Wexford County Sports Capital Grant application with our Government colleagues,” Minister Brown concluded.
Fine Gael TD Paul Kehoe was also delighted to see the Wexford club receiving allocations through the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme.
“Today, we are allocating the largest-ever grant nationally for equipment under the Sports Capital and Equipment Program,” he said.
“These clubs are at the heart of our communities and the aid they receive will be a huge source of support for local teams and athletes, boosting participation in sport.”
“It is also welcome news that work will begin to assess capital applications with allocations to be announced later this year.
“Investing in sport for the health and well-being of our entire population is critical, which is why this program for stronger communities is so important.”
