Persons with disabilities were tasked with carrying out three projects: constructing classrooms in two schools and a multi-purpose gymnasium in a third school. The project was due to be completed by 2022, but a further deadline of March 31 was missed this year.
According to the report, persons with disabilities do not share reports related to persons with disabilities at review meetings. A government primary school in Ward 5 and a government high school in Subhash Nagar have each been allotted new classrooms. A public school, a dairy farm and Tajpur Road were to be the sites for the sports hall.
MC supervising engineer Sanjay Kanwal confirmed that a person with a disability was awarded a project in 2021. But he said even they lacked information on status reports. He said he was in the process of writing a letter to persons with disabilities with the aim of ensuring that pending projects are promptly completed and reported to the central government.
MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi has taken a serious note of the shoddyness seen in the work of persons with disabilities as the Smart City Mission draws to a close. He wrote a letter to the Disability Authority expressing his dissatisfaction and requesting an update on the situation at the next scheduled meeting.
