Police in eastern Uganda's Busia district have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of a 40-year-old woman.
According to Bukedi Regional Police Spokesperson Moses Mugwe, Paulina Rokiru's body was found abandoned in the Soro River in Soro 'A' village in Busia town on May 8.
“We received information regarding the murder of a 40-year-old woman and as the investigation progresses, we arrested three people,” Magwe said, adding that the motive for the murder was still unknown.
However, he said police are following leads that suggest an unknown person called the victim from her home after midnight. The investigation will determine whether the caller was involved in her murder.
Solo 'A' Village LC1 chairman Sam Mbogo said the deceased was discovered by residents who were out in their gardens in the morning.
“There were blood stains on the riverbank, so I went closer and found her body lying on the riverbed,” Mbogo said.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the mother of six was seduced and murdered by a yet-to-be-identified person, who reportedly offered her “meat.” I'll share it with you,'' he reportedly told her.
Resident Jamada Mayende said: “Around 1am, the deceased received a call from an unknown person who told her that her husband, Paul Eighan, a security guard, was on night shift and they had some meat to share. .
Agan provided an alibi for his whereabouts at the time of the murder, saying he was on night shift, but only said that when his wife promised him meat, he was called from the house by a stranger who seemed to know his wife. He said he heard it. .
He described his wife as a “peaceful woman who held no grudges against anyone,” raising questions about who killed her or wanted her dead.
The deceased worked as a cleaner and often spent his time sorting cereals at Busia's main market. Her body was taken to Busia Health Center IV for autopsy.
