The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFM) has confirmed that fines have been paid by meat factories that violated carcass trimming requirements in 2024.
A total of three fines were handed out to Dawn Meats' abattoir in Grána, on the Waterford-Kilkenny border.
As confirmed by DAFM, agriland There were three cases of carcasses in violation of carcass trimming requirements at Dawn Grana, resulting in a total fine of €750 (three fines of €250).
The department also confirmed that the fine had been paid.
Authorized officials from the Ministry of Agriculture (Carcass Classification Division) conducted inspections at all 33 factories that classify beef carcasses.
All carcasses inspected for carcass classification are also inspected for carcass trim.
Details of each factory fined for carcass trim specification violations from 2016 to date are in the table below.

Between 2016 and 2020, eight factories were fined for a total of 52 cases of non-conforming carcasses.
They are: Kildare Chilling. Traditional Meat; Meadow Meat; Kepak Kilbegan. Emerald Isle Foods; Kepak Claire; Kavanagh Meat. And baron meat.
All fines imposed on these meat factories have been paid, DAFM confirmed.
Approximately 237,000 carcasses were examined by inspectors during this period.
The ministry detected no nonconforming carcasses at meat plants inspected in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Last year in 2023, a total of 728 inspections were carried out across all plants, and 64,346 carcasses were inspected.
