Dr. Bhushan Gopalni, a professor of chemical and biological engineering in the UBC Faculty of Applied Sciences, is one of 54 new fellows elected to the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) announced this week.
Fellows are selected for their “outstanding contributions to Canadian engineering” and their “contributions as role models in their fields and communities.”
The Canadian Academy of Engineering is a national institution where individuals who have made significant contributions to Canada's engineering field provide strategic advice on matters of vital importance to Canada and Canadians. Fellows are committed to ensuring that Canadian engineering expertise and experience is applied to the benefit of all Canadians.

Dr. Gopaluni is a world-renowned expert in process data analysis.
He is a pioneer in the development and application of computational algorithms to characterize and optimize complex industrial processes. These algorithms transform vast amounts of industrial data into actionable knowledge. His research enables industry to remain globally competitive as demands for energy, environment and quality increase. His research has produced hundreds of research papers and several patents.
He has played a key role in the education of engineering students and championed diversity and inclusion. His outstanding leadership and mentorship has inspired many students and produced leaders in both academia and industry.
The induction ceremony for the new fellows is scheduled for May 28 in London, Ontario.
