Shabaka Meisha is a four-year project funded by the World Bank with US$129 million and implemented by the Government of the Republic of South Sudan through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) and the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare (MGCSW). The project will be formally launched at the country level in Juba in August 2023 and will build on the successes and lessons learned from previous World Bank-supported projects such as the Safety Net Skills Development Project (SNSDP) and the South Sudan Safety Net Project (SSSNP). is based on. Shabaka Meisha provides cash assistance to poor and vulnerable households to address immediate consumption gaps and build resilience to withstand future shocks. Targeted beneficiaries will participate in climate-smart labor-intensive public works (LIPWs) and behavioral change communication training aimed at promoting human capital development. The project will also educate and train households on financial literacy, water sanitation, hygiene (WASH), and early childhood development (ECD), contributing to improved overall well-being.
