Defense Secretary Aden Duale has now announced that the Kenya Defense Forces will plant at least 2.8 million trees in Nakuru and Isiolo counties.

The Defense CS, along with other KDF executives, received the latest information on the Defense Force-led tree cultivation strategy.
He added that this was done in accordance with the instructions of the head of state.
The KDF's top leadership was represented by Chief of Defense Forces Gen. Charles Kahariri, VCDF Lt. Gen. John Omenda, and ACDF Chief of Operations, Doctrine and Training Maj. Gen. Fred Luria.
This is part of a larger effort by the president to plant more than 15 billion trees over the next 10 years.
Last year, President William RutoNovember 13, 2023 is National Tree Growth Day.
This marks Kenya's commitment to plant 15 billion trees by 2032, with the key objective of restoring 10.6 million hectares of forest.
Speaking at an event in Kiu Wetland Makueni County last year, Mr Ruto said every tree planted was the breath of life for the country.
This year, the President announced that Kenya's October 10 public holiday had been changed from Utamaduni Day to Majingira Day.
This change took effect after Ruto agreed to it. Ordinances (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill.
The bill's summary states, “This bill amends the Public Holidays Act (Article 110) and replaces Utamaduni Day with Majingira Day, making it a public holiday to be observed on October 10th every year.'' .
“This is aimed at complementing government efforts towards environmental protection and conservation.”
According to the new changes, Majingira Day will be a day for all Kenyans to participate in environmental conservation activities.
This includes tree planting in line with the government's efforts to accelerate forest recovery and ensure 15 billion trees are planted by 2032.
This is one of the initiatives by the Kenyan government aimed at addressing the effects of climate change.
