Kenya Airways (KQ) flight number KQ613 bound for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) was forced to return to Mombasa on Saturday night, April 27.
The plane, carrying East African Community (EAC) Cabinet Secretary Penina Maronza and others, failed to land at JKIA due to poor visibility due to bad weather.
KQ announced in a statement on Sunday, April 28, that it had diverted a number of flights due to ongoing heavy rains in Nairobi.
“Due to heavy rain and poor visibility in Nairobi, we have diverted a number of flights, which may result in extended delays for some departures from Nairobi. We apologize for the inconvenience. ”KQ said.
The national carrier said it was prioritizing the safety and health of its crew and customers.
KQ urged customers affected by the flight disruption to contact the airline's customer care center.

On December 17, 2023, a KQ flight heading to Kigali Airport in Rwanda was forced to return to JKIA.
KQ said in a statement that the plane encountered poor visibility and worsening weather conditions while approaching Kigali International Airport.
The flight made two attempts to land but failed and returned to Nairobi.
