The controversy surrounding the distribution of fake fertilizer in the county deepened after the National Assembly Agriculture Committee discovered 107 bags in Homa Bay.
A committee led by Nyando MP Jared Okello, Matayos MP Jeffrey Odanga and Peter Sarasha (Mumias East) inspected the National Grain and Produce Board (NCPB) warehouse on Saturday, April 27, 2024. I found this badge inside.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga also accompanied the committee during the visit.
“It was discovered that fake fertilizer was brought into Homa Bay. This was following a complaint from a farmer who had purchased six bags of fertilizer,” Okello said.
Okello expressed concern that although 63 bags of GPC fertilizer were sold in Homa Bay, only one farmer who bought six bags reported that the fertilizer was fake. Did.
“It is clear that there is fake fertilizer in this NCPB warehouse. We would like to urge farmers who purchased fake fertilizer to report it,” Okello said.
The committee said it will compile a report that will reveal the extent to which fake fertilizers have infiltrated NCPB warehouses and farms across the country.
Sarasha said the report's findings will also determine whether agriculture CS Mitika Lintuli should be impeached.
“When we called CS Lintuli, he said he had no knowledge of the existence of the fake fertilizers. Today, we discovered them at the NCPB warehouse. Our investigation continues, but I Our report will recommend what to do with him,” Sarasha said.
Meanwhile, Governor Wanga expressed concern that the bags of fertilizer received in Homa Bay were lower than the recommended amount.
Mr Wanga said Homa Bay had 245,000 registered farmers and should have received 165 million bags, but received only 23,000 bags.
