Madison County has provided more than $1.3 million in funding for a variety of parks and recreation projects in communities across the county. PEP grants range from $15,000 to $152,000 and include ADA equipment, playground equipment, pickleball courts and lighting, fencing, landscaping, sporting equipment, solar power, picnic tables, tables and chairs, gazebos, lawn mowers, and more. Contains funding for the project.
Madison County Board Member and Grants Committee Chair Dennis Wiehart told The Big Z that the PEP grant program will greatly benefit the entire county.
The Madison County Commission approved the grant package at its last meeting. Grants will be provided through 1/10.th This money is combined with city, village, town and park district funds to fund projects.
Approved local projects include:
City of Alton: $138,903 – Gordon Moore Park: Bathhouse roof.
Killian Park: Bandshell Pavilion
PEP loan repayment
Bethalto village: $28,721 – Village Park: Awning for bandstand seating area.
East Alton Village: 32,065 – Van Preter Park: 11 picnic tables.
Lions Park: PEP loan repayment
Foster Township: $15,500 – Address minimal drainage issues, ADA walking paths, mulch on the ground and around swings (ADA), and other park equipment.
Godfrey Village: $97,939 – Glazebrook Park – Pickleball lights, shade structure, pitching machine, portable backstop, windshield, trash can, baseball/softball equipment. Lawn mowers servicing all parks.
Roxana Communication. Park district: $15,000 – Purchase new tables and chairs for the Rocks Arena and 10 additional chaise lounges for the swimming deck.
South Roxana Village: $15,000 – Juravitch Park – Gazebo installation
Wood River City: $57,552 – Partial repayment of PEP loan. The remaining funds will be used to purchase utility vehicle sprayers for park treatment.
Wood River District: $26,804.71 – Repair and resurfacing of existing pavement and installation of new pickleball court $ New perimeter fence.
