The final funeral of Ama Busia, a founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), is underway in Accra.
On Friday, April 26, 2024, a state burial will be held in honor of Mr. Ama Busia, former First Deputy Leader of the New Patriotic Party and distinguished member of the Council of Elders.
Her body was taken to her hometown of Wenchi in the Bono region and will be buried on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
Ama Busia, who is also the sister of the late Prime Minister Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, after a short illness.
According to a report by asaaseradio.com, Dr. Obeng Busia. Ama Busia's son confirmed her death at Nyaho Medical Center early Tuesday morning.
Ama Busia was 87 years old when he passed away and remained a powerful and influential figure within the NPP until his final days.
Ama Busia, known for her activist and political criticism of the Acheampong government, faced adversity, including being arrested seven times. Her seventh arrest resulted in 90 days in custody.
She played an important role in the creation of the Northern People's Party, which later merged with the Danka and Busia parties to form the current New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Ama Busia is a resilient politician who held various leadership positions within the NPP. She served as a member of the State Council after her NPP won the 2000 elections under the John Agyokumu Kufuor government.
Mr. Ama previously held the positions of First and Third National Vice Chairman at the Nuclear Power Plant.
Her educational journey began at Wenchi Methodist School and Methodist Middle Girls School in Kumasi, followed by teacher training at Komenda Training College.
In 1959, Ama Busia and her brother Kofi Abrefa Busia emigrated to London to study facility management and catering at Regent Street Polytechnic.
