Kamunei Football Club (FC) from Sotik sub-county defeated Mogoiwet Snippers in a penalty shoot-out with 3 goals to 2 goals to win the first edition of the highly contested Wakili tournament.
Kamunei played strong defense against the Snippers, who were much more aggressive and had a higher possession rate.
Both teams failed to score in regular time and the referee forced 30 minutes of extra time, with no fruitful goals scored.
The tournament, which started on December 10, 2023 in Gellerit, Mogogosiyek and Central Bomet, attracted around 437 teams drawn from five sub-counties of Bomet.
The competition, initiated by Bomet Senator Wakili Hilary Sigei, aims to discover and develop young talent.
The tournament attracted more than 30,000 fans who filled the Bomet IAAF Stadium, along with local political leaders led by Bomet Lieutenant Governor Shadrach Rotich and other community leaders including Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot A number of guests also gathered.
Mogoiwet Snippers managed to collect Sh700,000 despite losing in the penalty shootout, while Kapusinbilir FC defeated neighboring Chupukoron FC 2 goals to 1 in regular time to take home Sh250,000 and come in third place.
